Mr Davis joined the investment banking arm of the HSBC Group in Australia in 1981 and undertook several roles in corporate banking and specialised lending in Australia, Hong Kong and the USA.
In 1994, he was appointed Head of Commercial Banking and shortly afterwards, Managing Director, of HSBC Bank Australia Limited, which also included responsibility for the wholesale banking business of HSBC Bank plc's Sydney branch.
In January 1999, Mr Davis became Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in Taiwan, where he was responsible for the personal and commercial banking operations of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.
Mr Davis was appointed Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in Australia 2002.

Before joining HSBC, worked for the Commonwealth Bank, establishing its premium banking service as well as Woolworths Ezy Banking.
Prior to that he worked in South Africa as a qualified chartered accountant and in corporate finance before migrating to Australia.
Noel McNamara is head of commercial banking for HSBC in Australia.
In this role he is responsible for HSBC's commercial banking for clients from small medium enterprises to middle market and large corporates. Dedicated client relationship teams in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth work closely with sector and product specialists from across transactional banking, trade services and global markets to provide clients with tailored solutions, integrating the full range of HSBC's domestic and international banking services.
Noel McNamara joined HSBC in 1995 and has worked in a range of commercial and corporate banking roles in South Australia as well as New South Wales. Prior to his role as head of commercial banking, he was NSW State Manager for middle market clients.

Janie Wanless is Head of Global Banking for HSBC Bank in Australia.

From the provision of credit to payments and cash management, trade and supply chain, debt capital markets, syndication, project and export finance and securities services, HSBC's Global Banking business coordinates its service around the client's global needs, taking advantage of HSBC's presence around the world.
In her previous role as HSBC's Director of Institutional Banking Australia, Wanless was responsible for HSBC's institutional clients in Australia, facilitating business across the Group's global product lines. Wanless and her team worked closely with HSBC's global debt finance and advisory teams where the key focus is delivering offshore debt for institutional clients.
Wanless was previously Head of Sales for HSBC Australia's global markets focusing on currency and interest rate risk management for the bank's clients. Prior to joining HSBC, she was with Commonwealth Bank Australia for nine years. Among her roles there was management of international treasury relationships for CBA in London.
John Edwards has been chief economist for HSBC in Australia since early 1997. Between 1991 and 1994 he was Senior Adviser (Economic) to Treasurer and then Prime Minister Paul Keating. After leaving the Prime Minister's office in 1994 he worked in banking roles, first as an adviser at Macquarie Bank and then as chief economist for Societe Generale.
Mr Edwards spent most of his previous career as an economic and political reporter in Sydney, Canberra and Washington. Before joining Mr. Keating he was Washington correspondent for the Sydney Morning Herald.
He holds a Ph.D. in economics from George Washington University and is the author of three books, including Keating, a best selling biography of the former prime minister, and Curtin's Gift, a reinterpretation of the wartime prime minister.
Mr Edwards role at HSBC includes the provision of economic views and advice to the commercial bank and the treasury and capital markets group.
