HSBC APPOINTS NEW CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER

HSBC has appointed Brenton Hush as chief information officer (CIO) in Australia and New Zealand.

As CIO, Hush will be responsible for the development, implementation and operation of the Bank's IT systems in Australia and New Zealand, leveraging HSBC's significant global IT resources to the benefit of the Australasian market.

Hush's team is responsible for the deployment and management of some 120 platforms in Australia and New Zealand, including:

  • HSBCnet global corporate banking platform
  • WebFinance third party retail point-of sale-platform
  • WHIRL global credit card platform

The HSBC Group has some 28,000 IT professionals managing its systems around the globe and has set up its own single, self-managed global network - hsbc.com. The Group has deployed hundreds of systems in the last three years and continues to expand its pool of global platforms.

Stuart Davis, chief executive officer of HSBC Bank in Australia said: "To deliver the greatest value to HSBC's retail and wholesale clients in Australia, we need to put the scale and the global presence of the HSBC Group to use for each and every one of them.

Prior to his appointment as CIO for HSBC in Australia and New Zealand, Hush spent 18 months with HSBC as deputy CIO in Australia. That followed his post as CIO for the General Pants Group. Prior to this, Hush held senior technology and broadcast relationship positions within major international sporting events, including the 2003 Rugby World Cup, the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games and the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
