Under the unprecedented five-year deal, HSBC has been awarded title naming rights to the record-breaking IRB Sevens World Series, which comprises of tournaments in Dubai, South Africa, New Zealand, USA, Australia, Hong Kong, England, Scotland and most recently added to, Tokyo. The Australian leg of the tournament is held on the Gold Coast each year and represents the opening first event of the HSBC Sevens World Series. HSBC announced their sponsorship of the IRB Rugby Sevens World Series in 2010, and integrates the sponsorship with HSBC Customers and Employees attending the events around the Globe.

The British & Irish Lions is one of the most elite rugby union teams from the world, comprising of players from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. HSBC is proud to be the principal partner of the British and Irish Lions tour to Australia in 2013. The renewal of this sponsorship was announced in October 2010 and follows the successful sponsorship of the 2009 tour to South Africa, signed in 2007.
