How do I apply for a credit card with HSBC?

There are a number of ways to apply for a credit card with HSBC.

Simply:

  • Apply online
  • Visit your nearest HSBC branch
  • Email us your enquiry
  • Download an application form and fax it to HSBC Card Services on 02 8987 5923
  • Call us on 132 152 (or +61 132 152 from overseas) to order an application pack.

For HSBC Premier, please speak to your Relationship Manager or call the HSBC Premier Centre on 1300 301 168.

Does HSBC have a minimum income requirement?

HSBC has different minimum income requirements for each credit card product:

HSBC Credit Card   $20,000 minimum income p.a.
HSBC Classic Credit Card   $20,000 minimum income p.a.
HSBC Gold Credit Card   $50,000 minimum income p.a.
HSBC Platinum Credit Card   $75,000 minimum income p.a.
HSBC Premier Credit Card   You must be an existing HSBC Premier customer to apply

You must be able to provide evidence of your income in support of your credit card application. HSBC's credit criteria apply.

Please note, income thresholds do not guarantee approval.

 

What will I need to complete my application?

You will need to complete or provide the following for your application to progress:

  • Application Form: Either enter your details online, or download the form and post it or drop it in to an HSBC Branch
  • Signature Form: For applications submitted online, you are required to complete and sign this form
  • Proof of income: Either a recent payslip or other acceptable evidence of your income (i.e letter from your employer)
  • Identification: If you are not an existing HSBC customer, you may need to complete a Bank@Post 100 point identification form and provide acceptable proof of your identity (including photo ID) and address. You can present this form along with original documents to your local Australia Post office displaying the Bank@Post sign.

How is my credit limit calculated?

Your application will be assessed for the maximum credit limit available based on your individual circumstances and determined by HSBC. Minimum credit limits for each product are:

HSBC Credit Card   $1,000 minimum limit
HSBC Classic Credit Card   $1,000 minimum limit
HSBC Gold Credit Card   $5,000 minimum limit
HSBC Platinum Credit Card   $8,000 minimum limit
HSBC Premier Credit Card   $15,000 minimum limit

How do I change my credit limit?

If you would like to apply to have your credit limit increased, the primary cardholder will need to complete and return our Credit Limit Increase Request Form. You can apply for a credit limit increase provided your HSBC credit card account has been open for 6 months, your account has been kept in good order, and you have not applied for an increase in the previous 6 months. HSBC's credit criteria apply.

What happens if my application is declined?

If your application for an HSBC credit card is declined, you will receive a letter notifying you of this. We cannot divulge specific reasons for your declined application if you have failed to meet our credit criteria. However, if our decision has been affected by an adverse Credit Bureau, we will advise you of this and provide details of how to find out more information.
