Getting Started

Once you have an account with HSBC, getting started with Internet Banking is quick and easy. Simply refer to the instructions below.

Please read details on PC configuration for HSBC's Internet Banking.

Registration Type

Personal Accounts

To register for Internet Banking online, you will need a Personal Banking Number (PBN) and a Personal Identification Number (PIN). To logon to Internet Banking, you will also need an Online Security Device.

If you are not an existing HSBC customer and would like access to Internet Banking, why not give our feature packed Online Savings Account a try - it's an everyday banking account with fee-free banking options.

If you are an existing HSBC customer and DO NOT have a PBN and PIN, simply follow the steps below:

Step 1: Download and complete the application form
Step 2: Once we have received your completed form, your PBN and PIN will be mailed to you
Step 3: Once you receive your PBN and PIN, you will then be ready to register by simply following the 5 steps outlined below.

If you are an existing HSBC customer with a PBN and PIN, simply follow the steps below to register:

Step 1: Register here or alternatively go to the HSBC home page and click on the "Register" button under "Online Services" in the right hand side box (make sure you have your PBN and PIN handy)
Step 2: Enter your PBN and PIN
Step 3: Set-up a personalised Username and Password
Step 4: Once you have done steps 1-3, an Online Security Device will be mailed to you
Step 5: Once you have received your Device, you will need to activate it online.

Important Note - Both-to-sign Joint Accounts: If you have a joint account with both-to-sign authorisation, you will not able to be able to register or manage this account using Internet Banking.

 

Business Accounts

To apply for Business accounts for Internet Banking, the Business Directors need to download and complete the application form. Please read the Business Internet Banking Product Disclosure Statement before applying for Internet Banking.

Businesses are required to nominate at least one Business Administrator who can set up other users online and assign their Internet Banking entitlement.

What operating systems and browser versions do I need?

Internet Banking is optimised for the following popular operating systems and browser versions:

If your PC uses a different operating system or browser version, you may experience difficulty using some Internet Banking functions.

To check your browser version:

1. Open Internet Explorer®
2. Click on 'Tools' and select 'Menu Bar' (Not required for IE6)
3. Select 'Help'
4. Click on 'About Internet Explorer'
5. Details are under heading 'Version and Update Versions'

 

What screen resolution is needed?

Internet Banking uses a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. If the PC you use to access Internet Banking has a lower screen resolution, you may find you cannot view the entire screen width in a single screen view so you will need to scroll right or left.

To change your screen resolution:

1. Click on 'Start' on your windows toolbar
2. Select 'Control Panel' - this will open a new window
3. Select 'Display' (For Vista, select 'Personalization') - this will open a new window
4. Select the 'Settings' tab (For Vista, select Display Settings)
5. Ensure screen resolution is 1024 x 768 or higher. If required, slide bar to right to increase resolution
6. Click on 'Apply' to select desired resolution
7. Click 'Yes' if the screen displays correctly
8. Click 'OK'
9. Restart Internet Explorer to activate the new settings.
