Open a joint bank account online

If you've already got an HSBC joint account with someone and you'd like to open another one together, you can do it online. Here's how.

Opening a joint account online: things to keep in mind

First off: you need to be registered for online banking
You can only use the online application if you already have an HSBC joint account with the same person
If you don't already have an HSBC joint account with them, then you'll need to get in touch with us or visit a branch
Note that you can only use the online service to open an "either to sign" account. This means that each person can operate the account independently of the other account holder.

If all those points apply to you, you can open your HSBC joint account online

If you're using online banking you need to

Log on to online banking
Hover on the "Products & Services" section in the top navigation bar to find the account you're interested in and tap "Apply now"
On the next page tap "Apply online in 2 steps"
Complete and submit the form. For "Type of account", remember to select "Joint" and then select your joint account holder's name from the dropdown menu

If you're using our mobile banking app, you need to

Log on to the app
Scroll down to the "Explore products and services" section and tap on the type of account you are interested in
On the next page tap "Open account". We'll let you know that you'll be leaving the app to do the application. Tap "OK" to continue.
Complete and submit the form. For "Type of account", remember to select "Joint" and then select your joint account holder's name from the dropdown menu

Once you're finished, let your partner know they will need to go through the same process using online banking or the app (whichever they prefer). When they're filling out the application, make sure that they choose the same account type that you did and mark it as a 'Joint' and then choose your name from the dropdown menu.

If the application was successful, your account will be opened instantly, ready for you to use right away. If it wasn't successful, we'll explain what else you need to do.
