Available currencies

You can buy, transfer, hold, and spend the following currencies:

• Australian dollar
• United States dollar
• British pound
• Euro
• Hong Kong dollar
• Canadian dollar
• Japanese yen
• Chinese yuan (currency restrictions apply)
• Singapore dollar
• New Zealand dollar

Joint accounts

You can apply for a joint HSBC Everyday Global Account.

You can add a currency to your existing account by following these steps. (You don't need to deposit any funds to add a new currency.)

Using the HSBC Australia Mobile Banking app:

1. Log on to the app.
2. Scroll down and find 'Discover more products'.
3. Choose 'Transaction accounts'.
4. Select 'Everyday Global Account', then 'Open account'.
5. Complete the form and choose the currency or currencies you want to add, and select 'Save & continue'.
6. Review the form and accept the terms and conditions before you submit.

Once you see the confirmation screen, you can start using your additional currency or currencies right away.

Using HSBC Online Banking:

1. Log on to HSBC Online Banking.
2. Choose 'Products and services' from the top menu.
3. Find 'Apply now' under the 'Transaction accounts' menu.
4. Select  'Apply online in 2 easy steps' under 'Everyday Global Account'.
5. Complete the form and choose the currency or currencies you want to add, and select 'Save & continue'.
6. Review the form and accept the terms and conditions before you submit.

Once you see the confirmation screen, you can start using your additional currency or currencies right away.

Yes. If a currency isn't listed in your account or if you're using Chinese yuan (CNY), which is subject to currency restrictions, then the amount will be deducted from your Australian dollar (AUD) balance and automatically converted into the local currency at the Visa exchange rate. No overseas transaction or ATM fees will apply, but some ATM operators and merchants may charge a separate fee.

The Australian dollar is the control currency for the Everyday Global Account. The control currency is sometimes called the main currency or the default currency.

If you're using a currency that you don't hold in your account, or if you don't have enough money in that currency, then money will be taken from your Australian dollar balance instead. 

If you make a deposit in a currency that isn't held in your account, then your money will be automatically converted and deposited as Australian dollars.

The first time that you qualify for cashback, we'll send you an email to confirm that you have unlocked Everyday Extras.

Once you deposit $2,000 or more into your Everyday Global Account, you'll qualify for 2% cashback on eligible tap and pay purchases under $100[@accounts-2percent-cashback].
