Secure email at HSBC

We protect our emails to you, so that you can be confident your banking experience with us is secure.

SecureMail

As a bank, we are used to thinking about security. At HSBC, we use industry standard security technology and practices to uphold the strictest security on the information that we communicate with you. Our aim is to deliver a safe and secure banking experience at all times including when we communicate confidential information to you. Encrypting emails reduces the risk of eavesdropping, tampering and mail forgery.

That's why we have made it our policy to encrypt and secure all emails when they contain information that could pose a risk to you or HSBC if intercepted by someone else.

How to receive your secure emails

From time to time, your HSBC Relationship Manager or HSBC representative will need to email you documents that may contain confidential or personal information. You can choose between two ways to receive your documents via email.

WinZip

Zip files (.zip or .zipx) are single files, that contain one or more compressed files that can be password protected for your security.

How it works

  1. To use WinZip, you'll need to make sure you have a compatible version of WinZip on your computer.
  2. We will email your documents in a password protected WinZip file.
  3. We will then call you to give you your password.

SecureMail

SecureMail is an email encryption solution provided by Voltage Security that you can use with any email application to protect your documents. Emails are secured using Identity Based Encryption which enables you to access your information quickly in addition to keeping the information safe.

How it works

The first time you receive a secure message encrypted by SecureMail, you will need to set up a SecureMail account and register your login credentials. You will also be assigned a personalised security image which you will see every time you receive an email via SecureMail from your HSBC Relationship Manager or HSBC Representative.

Setting up an account is easy and does not require you to provide any financial or personal information. You will only be asked to provide a user name and a password of your choice. There is no charge to you for using this service and no requirements to download or install any special software. All that is needed is an email account, connection to the Internet and a web browser. Once you have set up your account, you will be able to login and view your message at anytime.
